OUR BRANCH WAS AWARDED THE PLATINUM LEVEL AWARD IN 2008-9 as part of the AAUW National ***21st-CENTURY RECOGNITION PROGRAM *** In 2001-2002, 2002-3, 2003-4, 2004-5, 2005-6, 2006-7, 2007-8 and now again for 2008-9, Ballwin-Chesterfield Branch was awarded all 10 stars as part of the ***AAUW MISSOURI STAR AWARD PROGRAM*** At the National Convention in June 2009, Ballwin-Chesterfield received the following Recognition: 4th Place LAF (B-C is among the top ten “Protectors of the Legal Rights of those Facing Discrimination”) 5th Place in Total Branch Giving to LAF, EF, AAUW National, Eleanor Roosevelt Fund, and the Leadership and Training Institute 6th Place in contributions to the Eleanor Roosevelt Fund (B-C in the top ten for total branch giving to Break Through Barriers for Women and Girls) and at the AAUW-MO State meeting on June 28, Ballwin-Chesterfield received the following awards: #1 in state in EF contribution = $17,240.00 #1 in state in number of Century Club members (41 individuals contributed $100 or more to EF) #3 in per capita giving to EF ($66.05/person) #1 in giving to LAF, led by our 23 Key to Equity Members who each gave $100 or more 10 STAR AWARD: LEADERSHIP, PROGRAMS, MEMBERSHIP, VISIBILITY, ED. | BALLWIN-CHESTERFIELD AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO LOCAL WOMEN FOR 2009-2010 Ballwin-Chesterfield Branch raises scholarship funds through its many Dollars for Scholars Activites (click on the link above for more information about this program). One-half of the money raised goes to the National AAUW organization for their scholarship fund, and one-half stays here in St. Louis for our own Branch Scholarship Awards. Six local women have been awarded scholarships by our branch for the 2009-2010 academic year. Most are "non-standard" students, returning to school after years away. EPR (Educational Programs and Research - formerly titled Educational Foundation) CO-CHAIRS MARCIA BLOCK & JAN HORNER WORKED WITH OFFICIALS OF THE COLLEGES TO CHOOSE THE AWARDEES Allison Kipp attends Pierre Laclede Honors College at UMSL. She is a junior majoring in Special Education and returned to school after raising three children. Allison is a resident of Florissant and the 10th of 13 children in a family. Melanie Cole is a wife, mother of three, and a student at Pierre Laclede Honors College at UMSL. Thanks to scholarships, employment and her family support she is able to pursue her love of the written word and major in English. Loan Quach came from Vietnam about nine years ago and took English as a second language courses for several years in the evening. She is now married, caring for two young sons and employed full-time. Her goal as a student at UMSL is a degree in Accounting. Denise Otey is working toward a degree in Mass Communications at UMSL. In addition to attending school, being involved in campus activities and raising two children, she is employed at the St. Louis Area Food Bank Kathleen Wessel has a degree in Medical Technology and worked in medical laboratories prior to the birth of her two sons. Now as a single parent with two grown children she is pursing her passion of working in Music Therapy at Maryville University. Vicki Broeker, a mother of two, has received AAWU Scholarships in prior years and she anticipates completing her degree in accounting in May 2010. She is a student at Maryville University. |

| Ballwin-Chesterfield gives cash awards to girls who achieve first place in their divisions in the Greater St. Louis Science Fair. STEM Chair Sandra Murdock pioneered these awards.
