OUR DECEMBER MEETING FEATURED THE ANNUAL HOLIDAY AUCTION "CELEBRATING THE GIFTS OF AAUW". FINE, UNIQUE ITEMS
OF HOUSEHOLD DECOR, MEMORABILIA, COLLECTIBLES, GIFTS AND HOMEMADE GOURMET FOODS DONATED BY MEMBERS WERE
DISPLAYED FOR "SALE". PROFESSIONAL AUCTIONEER KEVA LIMBERG DISPLAYED HER EXPERTISE IN GENERATING EXCITEMENT
AND ACTION ON THE BIDDING.
THE AUCTION IS THE SOLE FUNDRAISER FOR THE BRANCH'S OPERATING FUND. NEARLY 200 MEMBERS AND THEIR GUESTS
ATTENDED, AND GAVE GENEROUSLY. PRELIMINARY TOTALS CAME TO $7500 AFTER EXPENSES!
Friendly faces greeted
the attendees as
members received their
name tags and were
assigned a numbered
paddle with which to
identify their bids.
Left: Helping to get guests into the spirit of giving were Betty Hartman (L) and Doris Nistler,
whose holiday melodies entertained before the start of the activities. Pam Triplett (daughter of
member Julia Triplett), a singer with the St. Louis Symphony, sang along with some of the
music. Below: Arlene Spector (at microphone) , Becky Kruse and Nance Roth, Auction
Co-Chairs, explained how the bidding would proceed.
(Left) Keva Limberg came all the
way from Perryville to conduct our
auction. She is shown generating
bids on a handmade braided wool
rug created by Doris Nistler.
(Right) Erlaine Eltomi stands ready
as a "bid spotter" to point out
bidders to Keva.
Below: the crowd filled the gym!
CLOCKWISE: 1-Pat Shores and
Mary Kay Wolfe with guest Anna
Bradley. 22 guests attended.
2-There was both an oral auction
(for higher priced items) and a
silent auction. Pat Corich (in hat)
makes her choice and enters her
bid in the silent auction.
3-Erlaine Eltomi displays a rum
cake to Judy Schaefer. Erlaine
donated the cake.
4-The pretty centerpieces were
given away at each table as
attendance prizes. There was also
a 50-50 event: 3 lucky winners
received $120 each!
This collage - to make you smile -
was created by Pat Corich to show
some of the "happy auction faces"
and friendly atmosphere at the big
event! Friendship, generosity and
fellowship are what the holiday
season is all about.....and
Ballwin-Chesterfield saw much of
all of these things today.
